Here in Colorado we listened to a bull elk bugling this morning as he grazed with his harem. We we probably paint the view from our deck later. The morning light on the mountains is lovely.

Laguna Plein Air Invitational
What an extraordinary week! Wish I could have bought a painting from each of the 40 national painters, but got the book instead. Here is Jim Wodark doing his Vana White routine showing that day is night and night is day. Treasure Island Beach was also a beauty, arch and all.

Hi All, It’s heavenly here. The cottonwoods are neon yellow-gold so that it hurts your eyes. I’m painting each day and discovering new places. Having chiles for every meal. I’ve enjoyed being solo for 5 days in Santa Fe. There is a profound peace in this wide expanse. See you Tuesday for paint out. Jean
Perfect Trip, we're home!
Got one more painting of the Watchman before leaving Zion. Also saw paintings by the Artist in Residence this summer, Ron Spears. There is a wonderful gallery in the History Museum Gift Shop. Headed to Vegas. What a bazaar scene! Had to walk the strip and watch the fountains dance at the Bellagio. In Mammoth,… Continue reading Perfect Trip, we're home!
A day of rest- we painted around Mt. Carmel
Sunday in Mt. Carmel’ Utah started late with a southwest breakfast before setting out to paint. We found a delightful dirt road and shade. The scene was of pinon trees-sage brush – sink sandstone earth – cobalt/violet sky plus those fabulous billowing clouds. We were so happy. Back at our hotel, we cooled off in… Continue reading A day of rest- we painted around Mt. Carmel
Zion- To the narrows but not through…
We had a workout today! Early start, drove one mile through a tunnel to be confronted by towering cliffs of red sandstone that stun you to silence. First stop, the Court of the Patriarchs, we rushed to block in the shadows in red, magenta, purple, and red oxide and place highlights in salmon, orange, and… Continue reading Zion- To the narrows but not through…
Bryce Canyon – they said "we don't paint there!" -(PAPA) – but we did.
Warning: this post was done after cocktail hour. We drove up to 8300 ft. At Bryce Canyon N.P. and painted – orange hoodoo, pink hoodoo, who knew which hoodoo? heard in the background: Italian, German, French, Chinese – and Texan. All joking aside, this day presented us all with some of the most complex painting… Continue reading Bryce Canyon – they said "we don't paint there!" -(PAPA) – but we did.
Loneliest Hwy
Whew, 11 hours driving from the Pacific to Nevada’s Great Basin. We were surprised by how beautiful central Nevada was. Lime colored chamisa in bloom on great expanses of high desert crisscrossed with mountain ranges. We thought we were charmed until we settled into our motel. Eunice discovered the carpet was soaking wet near the… Continue reading Loneliest Hwy
