We’re back in action with plein air painting! 6 of us, including our newest member, Diane Merion, painted at the U.C. Santa Cruz Arboretum in bright sunshine and warm temperatures. The South African Protea plants are blooming as well as many of the New Zealand heathers (Erica) .
I forgot my pochade box and so had to paint without an easel – The photo shows that you can use the crack between picnic table planks to support your thin wood panel. Better than not painting – but not ideal conditions. Plein air is about flexibility and adaptability – as I reminded myself all afternoon.
